About Author Annie Lawson

Annie Lawson is a business editor and journalist who has had a diverse career, from wrangling a clown on roller skates on a live television show and interviewing Kiss legend Gene Simmons to writing about China, technology and climate change for corporations and advocacy groups.

Even though the work has differed, Annie found some common threads, whether it be annoying people, meetings that are pointless and language that makes no sense.

She now works as a business editor after a stint on the dark side of the corporate world and is a devoted student of the Stoics, taking every opportunity to apply their wisdom to life’s challenges, whether it be work, relationships or her unsavoury habit of eating chocolate for breakfast.

The timeless insights from Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius from his Stoic self-help bible Meditations into human behaviour show that 2000 years on not much has changed in the workplace and life and that we could all do well if we focus on what we can control and worry less about things we can't. The Stoics also had a lot to say about matters of the heart, believing love was a 'spiritual fire' but we should not be a slave to our passions.

Her bestselling first book, Stoic at Work, published in 2023, has been translated into six languages and her latest book,
Stoic in Love, was released in September 2024 in Australia and in the UK and US in November.
